One of the Best Jazz Records to Ever Come OutMar 02, 2010 I first heard this record right after it came out. I'd play it sometimes when I was alone in my room on a little, inky dinky record player with tinny speakers, but that rinky dink player couldn't hide the beauty of the music Miles Davis was playing. Six later in 1966 I took acid for the first time, which would have been a scary experience and one I don't recommend anybody do, but I was young and dumb and an antiwar guy and it seemed like the thing to do. Anyway, I played this record a couple times through the experience and it made me fall in love with Spain. So much so that Vesta and I spent a couple years there with our kids a decade later.
Drugs aside, and I'm a firm believer in saying no now, this is one of the best jazz records to ever come out and is certainly one of the best ten records to come out in 1960. Now, a half century later, you can get 50th Anniversary Edition with outtakes. including a live version of "Concierto De Aranjuez" and this stuff is just as good as what they included on the original record. Hard to believe. Miles Davis doesn't take you where you want to go with his music, he takes you where you should go and he doesn't let go and he doesn't let you come back again.
This record made me imagine Spain and when I finally got there Spain lived up. Miles Davis did the country proud, painted a true picture without any words. What a feat, what a record.
This recording captured the essence of SpainFeb 21, 2010 I have the LP of this recording. In Spain, it was called "Soul Espanol". This is absolutely Miles at his best.
A Long Time ComingSep 13, 2009 Ya!
I have waited for years for this album. Did I say album? Now you have an idea how long. I remember it when it first came out and owned it soon after then lost it. I planned on another copy but there always something detracted me from my goal. Then I saw it here on Amazon and snapped it up. What a thrill to here this master piece again after so many years. This is music anyone can enjoy, like jazz or not.
It was done by to grand masters of jazz and will always be the music of the day.

Sketches Of Spain - Miles Davis, et alDec 25, 2008 This album requires quiet and close listening. Certainly a different Miles, but worth the $$ and effort.

I know this is a classic Jazz album but it's not my favoriteDec 12, 2008 I purchased this album (CD), based on a recommendation from a friend. It's ok, but I prefer real Spanish music to this variation of it. I'm more of a classical music buff so the Jazz style that Miles Davis uses in this album is not as sophisticated as I expected. I also think the pace, rythm, or tempo could have been a little quicker. Again, I'm no Jazz expert but I expected to like this CD much better than I did. I played it once or twice and put it away - maybe I need to try it again in a melancholy mood? It has more of a Blues feeling to it - and that's not my favorite Jazz form either....
